A joint venture between AXA IM Alts and Cabot Properties has completed a 3.7 MW community solar project on the rooftop of an industrial building in Somerset, NJ. Facilitated through their partnership with Black Bear Energy and developed by Dimension Renewable Energy, the installation will provide low-cost renewable energy to local businesses and homes, offsetting over 3,250 tons of CO₂ per year.
As part of New Jersey's Community Solar Program, the 8,243-panel system will power approximately 740 homes, including 375 low-to-moderate income households. Each of these homes will receive a 21% discount on their utility bills, equating to annual savings of up to $300 per household.
Brad Otis, Head of Asset Management at Cabot, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainable improvements and increasing renewable energy across their portfolios. Joshua Nislick, Vice President of Business Development at Dimension, highlighted the project's role in bringing clean, renewable energy to Somerset residents at a reduced rate and creating long-term community value. Drew Torbin, President of Black Bear Energy, praised clients like Cabot for leveraging community solar opportunities to benefit both themselves and the broader community.
